Céilí Night

Whether you are celebrating St. David’s Day,  St. Patrick’s Day, or the Vernal Equinox, Spring is the season for Celtic celebrations, and that means Music, Dance, Language, and Culture!  We’ve declared April “Celtic Month”!

In preparation, Pint of Irish is holding a Celtic Retreat at Camp Wrightwood in Wrightwood, CA!  Join us for a weekend of classes in Celtic music, dance, and language with “free time” for jamming, socializing, playing in a session, or just relaxing in the mountains. We also have a Hooley scheduled for Saturday night!

There are a limited number of spaces available, so get your reservations in soon!  If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us.

Saturday Night Hooley

Non-student guests are welcome to join us at our Saturday Night Hooley (7:00pm).  Guest tickets are $15.00 per person and can be purchased through our online registration page or at the Registration booth at the Retreat (lodging, food, and classes not included).

A Hooley is a party or gathering for fun, fellowship, and laughs (or craic as the Irish might say) with traditional music and dance. Traditional country folk dances have a follow-the-leader pattern that new dancers can learn easily.

Classes

If you're interested in traditional Celtic music, dance, and language you've come to the right place. We've scheduled a fine group of talented instructors who will share their knowledge and love of Celtic culture with you.*

*Classes are subject to change up until, and during, the retreat. Retreat attendees will receive a full schedule with their registration packet, which will be sent out no later than March 31st, 2019.

Music

Music classes are intended for players with the basic skills required to play their instruments (except the Harp class). We regret that due to the short duration of the retreat, it is not practical to offer instruction for novice students who have never played their instruments. All of our non-instrument classes and workshops are open to all levels. Knowledge of Irish music is not necessary.

EXAMPLES OF CLASSES FROM YEARS PAST:

Playing the Rhythm: Guitar
Flexible Irish Guitar: Beyond D & G
Jigs for Fiddlers and Others
Hornpipes for Fiddlers and Others
Reels for Fiddlers and Others
Adv Beginner’s Flute and Whistle
Beginning Bodhrán
Explore the Harp
Learning Tunes by Ear for all Instruments
Intro to Gaelic Languages
Celtic Crafts
Irish Tales of the Sea

Dance

Our dance instructors will cover the basics and walk you through every dance pattern to help you start dancing quickly. You’ll learn how to step, turn, swing your partner, and fun figures like chains, stars, etc. 4-hand, 6-hand, and 8-hand dances will be taught throughout the weekend to prepare you for Saturday night's Hooley. Be sure to wear comfortable, supportive shoes and clothing that breathes.

Language

Learn a bit about the beautiful Irish language through your favorite Celtic songs.  Throughout the weekend our friends from the Gaelic League L.A. will teach an "Introduction to Gaelic Language" class. You will learn about Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Manx (the language of the Isle of Man). These classes are designed for new students and those who would like to brush-up on what they learned at our last retreat.
